Celebrate 200 Years of Wildlife and Wonder

For 200 years, ZSL has been at the forefront of wildlife conservation, pioneering science, and unforgettable experiences with animals from around the world.

As the international conservation charity behind London Zoo and Whipsnade Zoo, ZSL has spent two centuries protecting endangered species, advancing global conservation, and inspiring generations to care for the natural world.

From introducing words like “zoo”, “aquarium” and even “jumbo” into everyday life, to leading vital conservation work across the globe, ZSL’s impact reaches far beyond its Zoos.

This year, be part of an extraordinary milestone. Visit London Zoo or Whipsnade Zoo and join the celebrations as ZSL marks 200 years of wildlife, wonder, and world-changing conservation.

Whipsnade Zoo’s brown bears gently wake from hibernation

SPRING may have arrived at the UK’s largest zoo with a brief burst of sunshine, but Whipsnade’s four European brown bears Mana, Minnie, Naya and Cinderella are in no rush to get up and at ‘em.

The fluffy foursome were spotted basking in the first of the spring rays, having awoken after three months of deep slumber. Footage captured by zookeepers this week shows the bears taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of a new year at a leisurely pace.

Visitors to the conservation zoo this spring will be able to see the bears, as well as 11,000 other animals, and every ticket goes towards supporting the conservation work ZSL does around the globe.
