Enjoy a trailer tour of Orford Ness. The tour stops at key points across the site and the outside area around the AWRE - the former Cold War weapons testing site.

The tour is approximately 3 to 4 hours and guide will provide fascinating insight into Suffolk's secret coast, military history and National Trust conservation.

This tour is predominantly a trailer tour, though some walking is required.

What's included

  • 3-4 hour guided tour

  • Seat on the trailer

  • Ferry crossing of the River Ore

Timings

  • 9:15am - Arrival at National Trust Office on Orford Quay

  • 9:30am - Boat leaves the quay for tour

  • 12:30-1:30pm - Land back at Orford Key

  • Non Member: £25 + £6 non member event fee

Notes and restrictions

  • Each CSSC Member may purchase one CSSC Member priced ticket per unique CSSC membership number. An additional ticket for guests may be purchased at the non member price.

  • Tour not suitable for younger children due to topic of the tour and duration.

  • This is a boat ticket only event. Transportation, parking and lunch are at your own discretion.

  •  There are no catering facilities on site so bring food and drink if needed.

  • Orford Ness is a coastal location with exposed conditions, please wear suitable clothing and comfortable shoes.

  • The size and type of the trailer for the tour may change depending on number of people attending

Accessibility

  • Please note that this tour does involve some walking including to and from the trailer and to some of the buildings along the tour.

  • Access to Orford Ness involves a ferry crossing of the River Ore. The ferry is accessed by steep and sometimes slippery steps.
