Join us on Tuesday, 20th May, starting at 10am for an unforgettable Active Wellbeing walk beginning at English Heritage’s Helmsley Castle in Yorkshire finishing at Rievaulx Abbey.
Follow in the footsteps of medieval monks on this picturesque rural walk between two historic sites in the North York Moors National Park. You'll experience a short peaceful hike in between both sites, which takes in fields, woodlands, and country tracks before arriving at the ruin of one of England's most powerful Cistercian monasteries. There are facilities at both sites and there is a large café at Rievaulx Abbey.
At Rievaulx Abbey, your exclusive Active Wellbeing event will include entry to the site.
Access - Level ground on established roads and lanes, though not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Length of walk - 3 miles
10:00 – Meet in the car park at Helmsley Castle. Car park pass should be obtained from site team.
10:15 – Guided walk from Helmsley Castle to Rievaulx Abbey.
10:45 - Arrive at Rievaulx Abbey.
11:00 - You can bring a packed lunch to enjoy the surroundings of Rievaulx Abbey or there is a café on site
You can pick up an audio tour and head out to the ruins to learn the story behind this amazing site. Take in the views, learn more about the Rievaulx monks and enjoy an on-screen presentation about Rievaulx’s story.
