Chatham and Maidstone | Penshurst House and Gardens & Coach

Come and join us on a trip to Penshurst’s 14th century Manor House and its Gardens.

You can stroll amongst the one mile of yew hedging that divides the Gardens into a series of ‘rooms’, each with its own season and colour. Wander further afield and visit the Arboretum, Trout Lakes, Lake Park and Lancup Well; at around 50 acres, they make Penshurst Place and Gardens one of Britain’s most alluring spectacles for groups throughout the year.

There is also the Wood Trail, the Adventure playground and the Toy Museum and its wonderful collection of toys on display from bygone eras.

Many of the toys are from the collection of Yootha Rose, stage designer, artist and royal toymaker, as well as toys from generations of the Sidney family, including many new ones from the present day owners. Numerous others have been given or lent to Lord De L’Isle for the collection.

Sitting in the barn is the Porcupine Pantry Cafe where you can enjoy a selection of locally made cakes, alongside hot and cold drinks, pastries, sandwiches, baguettes, hot lunch options, salads and snacks.

The Pantry is well-stocked with allergy-friendly foods, including gluten free and dairy-free alternatives.

Visitors are also welcome to picnic in the designated picnic area off the Lime Walk where picnic benches are provided. Follow signs to Lake Park - situated a short walk from the Visitor Entrance.

The Adventure Playground, next to the Visitor Entrance also provides a perfect place for those with children to sit and enjoy their picnic.
