A Mindset for Health
This is not a trick question. Do we focus on healthy eating, our mind, our soul, or physique?
The answer is we should think of all the above. Your health is the single most important thing for you. Taking care of your heart body and soul should be a priority.
There are so many options available to us, but we don’t make the most of this and this could lead to neglect which ultimately affects our mood. At least I know it affects my mood.
On days when I don’t feel like going to my local gym, I think I am doing this for me for my mindset. Nobody is going to work out for me I must get up and motivate myself.
Sometimes I struggle going to the gym, because I manage my two children, homework, after school clubs and Arabic language classes and a fulltime job which I love. The children enjoy long walks at the local park, playing football, swimming and walks with the family. But I love the feeling of being at the gym, it’s my time, it’s for me and my wellbeing it’s my escape.
We All Start Somewhere
I have been with my local gym for 5 years, at first when I started, I felt uncomfortable I wanted a space for women only. I requested the gym to set up women’s only Cardio and weights classes of which they obliged, and I was immensely grateful. I had my first leg day and by the time I left the gym I had jelly legs, and I couldn’t drive home. Once I reached home I was in pain and I phoned the gym and said there is something wrong with my legs, to which he replied "Is this your first session at the gym?" And I said yes, and he laughed so hard and said "you will be fine it happens during the first few sessions, your body will get used to it" and he was right. I found that amusing a few weeks later.
During covid the classes moved online, and I would workout with the team online with the light weights I had at home and then we would all have a quick catch up online on how everyone was and how we were longing for the norm. A few years down the line and I am enjoying my regular classes, and the gym is in the process of setting up 2 new floors with the latest equipment for women only.
Being active doesn’t mean you have to sweat it out regularly at the gym it could be several things it could be a walk with a friend, a coffee break at a café talking about what’s on your mind, it could be small sessions at the gym. It could mean a whole host of things, but the focus must be you. Your health matters. Every step counts.
This year I am hoping to continue my sessions at the gym and be consistent, also go for regular walks more often and enjoy the outdoors a little more and take on an extra hobby (art, crotchet/learning to play the piano).
