Introducing our new Vice-President

We are pleased to announce Prime Minister, The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer KCB KC MP, has graciously accepted the role as, Life Vice-President of CSSC.

The tradition of offering the role of Life Vice-President to all incumbent Prime Ministers, in their role as Leader of His Majesty’s Government, and overseeing the Civil Service, goes back to our formation in 1921 with David Lloyd George, continuing through successive Governments.

The role of Life-Vice President differs from that of the more active role of President, recently taken up by Susan Acland-Hood, in that it remains largely ceremonial.

As a keen sportsperson and football fan, we invite and welcome Sir Keir to join us at any of our events, in his capacity as either Life Vice-President or member of CSSC.

“We are delighted that the Prime Minister has agreed to become an Honorary Vice President of CSSC,” said CSSC Chief Executive, Matt Bazeley OBE.

“He joins a long list of national leaders, going back to our foundation in 1921, who have fulfilled this role. It is testimony to his recognition of the importance of exercise and wellbeing for one’s individual physical and mental health.

“We know the Prime Minister is a keen sports fan and enjoys the benefits of playing football with friends. We look forward to working with him as we continue our work to promote healthy living and wellbeing for all civil servants.”
