Today is International Women’s Day, celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality, everywhere. #BreakTheBias

The day also helps to raise funds for female-focused charities like Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, Catalyst, Equality Now and many others.

On a mission

International Women’s Day (IWD) has a number of missions to help realise their goal of a gender-equal world.

  • Raising greater awareness about issues impacting women's equality
  • Taking a stance to call out inequality while working to forge positive action
  • Highlighting and applauding where important gains are being made
  • Celebrating women's achievements and accomplishments

#BreakTheBias

This year’s theme is ‘Break The Bias’ which hopes to raise awareness of both conscious and unconscious bias, to challenge the difficulties that many women around the world still face on a daily basis, whether in work, at home or on the sports field.

Everyone can help IWD spread the word by striking your ‘Break The Bias’ pose and sharing on social media using #BreakThe Bias or #IWD2022.

To celebrate IWD and help mark this important day, we’re planning a series of podcasts, whereby we ask some insightful questions of our guests on their experiences and how they combat bias in their professions, including:

  • Podcast from Abbie Barnes our OS Maps champion
  • Podcast from Rachel Smillie who rowed 3,000 miles unsupported across the Atlantic as part of Team Excelsioar
  • Webcast from Katie Bradshaw on the benefits of volunteering and women in leadership roles.

There are loads of ways you can get involved in either one of the planned #IWD2022 events, or create your own with friends, family or colleagues.
