Embark on an unforgettable Winter Hill Walking Adventure in the Cairngorms – February/March 2026! ❄️🥾

🏔️Discover the wild beauty of the Cairngorms National Park in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Wander through dramatic glens like the Lairig Ghru, climb snowy gullies, and stand on the summits of iconic peaks such as Ben Macdui, Cairn Toul, Bynack More, and Cairn Gorm itself.

🏔️ Our base at the Highlander Hotel in Newtonmore puts you right at the edge of the action – with the ski centres of Aviemore and the shores of Loch Morlich just a short drive away.

If the weather turns in the east, no problem – we’ll head west to explore the Central Highlands or take on the mighty peaks near Fort William.

Along the way, you’ll encounter Scotland’s rare and elusive wildlife: golden eagles soaring above, red squirrels darting through the trees, and herds of reindeer roaming the snow-covered hills. Keep an eye out for ptarmigan and mountain hares in their winter coats – and if you're lucky, even the legendary wildcat or capercaillie. This is your chance to experience the magic of winter in the Highlands. Breathe the crisp mountain air, reconnect with nature, and take on some of the UK’s finest winter walking!

Book now and be part of the adventure!

More reasons to go! -

  • Enjoy meeting new friends and sharing experiences of walking in the great Scottish Highlands. The pace is set by the slowest team member and respect is given to varying levels of experience and capabilities in the group. This is our ethos. We start slow, wrap up well and learn our winter skills. Then the real fun begins.

  • If you have always wanted to experience the high mountains of Scotland but never felt experienced enough, then this week will give you an opportunity to visit the mountains with professional supervision.

  • We use qualified mountain leaders who will deliver skills training on winter hill walking, including the use of crampons and ice axes. Equally, a program of lower level less demanding walks will be on offer.

  • If you have experience walking in the Scottish Winter Mountains you will have the opportunity to suggest a walk to the leaders, or you may fancy trying some easy Winter Climbing, Snow Shoeing or spending a night in a Bothy.

Important Information

There are limited availability on single rooms which have a supplement of £200 and will be allocated on a first come-first serve basis. This winter hill walking week requires a high level of organisation, harnessing significant resources and relying on participants to choose activities according to their capability and realistic ambition. For personal and group safety, kit & equipment lists should be studied in advance to ensure participants have all items they need once engaged in activities. Finally, timings are important and should be adhered to.

Please read the supporting information before committing to attend! This will ensure you have the required equipment and the trip is suitable for you.

You must agree to take out your own personal accident insurance to cover the trip. While there will be a qualified guide in attendance, there is always some element of unavoidable risk.

If you have any questions please contact the organiser Clair or email us at events@cssc.co.uk
