Stay safe online with CSSC

Keeping our members’ personal data secure is our top priority. We are continually reviewing our policies and procedures to keep your information safe.

With the expanse in the use of technology and the internet, businesses and individuals are increasingly being targeted with scams. Criminals are using emails, fake websites and even phone calls attempting to steal your personal and private information, such as bank account details, passwords and address information.

With the high level of sophistication involved, it can be extremely difficult to spot fraudulent emails and websites. Stories from illegitimate phone calls can be convincing and appear realistic.

Criminals often add details they’ve gained from other sources to appear genuine and they will copy the style and tone of the organisation they’re attempting to emulate. Their websites may look and feel like the real companies and their emails and phone calls may be extremely similar.

The best advice is, if you are unsure, wait before you act. You can take a few simple steps to ensure the email, call or website is genuine.

  • Find the publicly available phone number to call and check if a contact is genuine.
  • Use a search engine to visit their website rather than clicking on an emailed link.
  • Check the email for spelling mistakes or inconsistencies.
  • Wait before you respond. Often fraudulent contacts will insist on an immediate or quick decision to stop you thinking.
  • Ask yourself if the offer is too good to be true.
  • Never give out your personal details like passwords via email or over the phone to someone you don’t know.
