On Tuesday, 30 September CSSC hosted its inaugural Active Wellbeing Workplace Takeover at Soapworks in Manchester, bringing together public sector workers to boost their physical and mental wellbeing where they spend most of their week: at work.
To offer a taste of the many benefits of Active Wellbeing through a CSSC membership, an action-packed calendar of events was delivered in partnership with Holland and Barrett, PureGym and Personify who were all offering people the opportunity to engage with them and win a variety of prizes.
The day started in the crisp autumn air with a 7am pilates and stretch class overlooking the sensational sunrise at Salford Quays before everyone was invited into the lobby to enjoy freshly squeezed juices to give them a kick to start their day.
During lunch, Holland and Barrett hosted two ‘Let’s Talk’ sessions focusing on Gut Health and Sleep, two essential pillars of physical and mental wellbeing. Attendees learned how simple changes in their daily routines and diets can have a powerful impact on energy levels, focus and overall long-term health.
Meanwhile, PureGym took advantage of the sunshine and hosted a meditation session in the courtyard for those looking for a more active way to spend their lunch break.

The day was all about connection and nothing brought colleagues together quite like taking each other on in a smoothie bike competition which ran all throughout the day. To round the day off, employees were invited to challenge themselves in a PureGym circuits class or a 5km run along the water’s edge.

Speaking about the event, Michelle Burton CSSC Brand and Events Manager said:
“At CSSC we place a large emphasis on workplace wellbeing, so getting to bring our vision to life at Soapworks with Active Wellbeing and seeing employees enjoy the sessions and activities has reinforced the importance of what we’re aiming to achieve. We look forward to working with partners in future to bring the events to workplaces across the UK.”
Active Wellbeing is the UK’s largest physical activity campaign which aims to remove barriers and inspires participants to move more and be more active to improve their overall wellbeing.
This year alone, more than 35,000 members from the civil service and public sector have taken part in three challenges where they have been encouraged to move more to better health in teams with their colleagues and individually inside and outside the workplace.

Specifically designed for public sector employees, CSSC gives members money-can’t-buy opportunities, that no other member organisation does. Whether it’s exploring new ways to get healthy through easy-to-access wellbeing offers or making the most of your free time, CSSC members get access to great deals and days out.
